Unlock the Power of Nature: Best Natural Laundry Cleaners You Didn't Know You Needed

Laundry might feel like a tedious task, but using natural ingredients can make it effective and safe for both your clothes and the environment. Instead of resorting to harsh chemicals, you can rely on common household items that are powerful cleaners. Here’s a closer look at the best natural cleaning products for laundry: distilled white vinegar, lemon juice, hydrogen peroxide, Miss Mouth's Messy Eater Stain Treater, baking soda, borax, and corn starch.

Distilled White Vinegar: White Magic

Distilled white vinegar is a staple in my laundry room. It breaks down detergent residue, eliminates odors, and softens fabrics. White vinegar is easier on your clothes than fabric softener, and it's better for your washing machine too.

It works really well against stubborn smells, such as sweat from work and/or workout clothes. A study found that adding vinegar can eliminate up to 90% of odor-causing bacteria. So, the next time you face a particularly stinky load, pour in that cup of vinegar and trust me, you'll notice a difference!

Lemon Juice: Nature's Bleach

Lemon juice is an excellent natural cleaner, its high acidity causes it to break down stains effectively. In addition to its stain-fighting powers, lemon juice brightens whites and helps reduce discoloration. Adding half a cup to your load of whites during the wash cycle can brighten your whites, making them look almost new. It has been proven that lemon juice can brighten fabric by up to 30% when used consistently.

Hydrogen Peroxide: Fabric Brightener

Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful, but often overlooked, cleaning ingredient. Renowned for its whitening abilities, it tackles tough stains from wine, blood, and grass. Be careful though, you might want to consider a patch test on colored fabrics to prevent possible bleaching. Hydrogen peroxide can remove up to 80% of certain tough stains, so I typically only use it on whites or light colored clothes.

Miss Mouth's Messy Eater Stain Treater

Miss Mouth's Messy Eater Stain Treater is amazing at getting rid of tough food stains and totally changes the game for stain removal. This natural stain remover specifically targets food stains and is safe for various fabrics and colors. Just spray it on stains right away, the sooner you act, the easier it is to remove the stain. This stain fighter is known for battling tough stains like spaghetti sauce, and the best part is that its natural and safe to use for your littles!

Baking Soda: Fabric Freshener

Baking soda is fantastic for deodorizing laundry and boosting the cleaning power of your detergent. It can also reduce detergent residue, helping your clothes smell fresh without any unwanted build-up. Studies show that it can boost laundry detergent's effectiveness by up to 20%. Baking soda doesn't just eliminates odors, but it also removes stains and can make whites brighter!

Borax: Laundry Booster

Borax, or sodium borate, is a natural mineral that has been reliably used in laundry applications for years. It softens water, making your detergent perform better, and can lead to noticeably cleaner clothes. If you live in an area with hard water, Borax is especially beneficial. Borax is highly versatile, effectively removing stains, deodorizing, and brightening whites.

Corn Starch: the more natural "Magic Eraser"

Corn starch may primarily serve as a cooking ingredient, but it has impressive cleaning capabilities too! You can use it to absorb tough stains such as grease, oil, and wine. Sprinkle it on the affected area, let it sit, and then brush it off before washing.

You can also incorporate corn starch into your cleaning products for additional freshness. It can lift stains and can add a clean scent in your clothes, making it a versatile addition to your laundry toolbox.
